WINDOWS
“Looking In to See Out”
Artist Statement
This collection is grounded in the concept of looking in to see out— a visual metaphor for the impact our self-reflection has on how we live our lives in the world.
As I wandered through the labyrinthine streets of Italy, I looked for how light and shadow play with the intricate details of the Baroque facades of churches, monuments and other buildings. I became captivated by how the windows of the buildings trap a distorted, yet magical, reflection of these carvings. To me, the windows became portals for how one’s internal self-perception affects how one sees the world around them.
This series reminds us that our perception of the world is shaped not only by what we see but also by who we are,
